elevate dance company is a unique course which culminates in a tour by the apprentices of Springs Dance Company, Europe’s foremost professional Christian dance company.
Dancers in elevate benefit from an intensive training and the unique opportunity to learn from Springs’ extensive experience in the Christian dance field.
The course will culminate in a national or international tour where apprentices perform and teach as the company elevate. The preparation for the tour includes:
- A daily technique class in Contemporary, Ballet or Jazz
- Daily prayer
- Choreography
- Repertoire
- Improvisation
- Teaching practice
- Discussions about dance and the Christian faith
In past years, elevate has been invited to perform at festivals, churches, theatres and schools in America, Austria, Italy, across the UK and London.
Who is the course for?
The course is suitable for people over 18 years of age who have experience of dance training, particularly for those wanting to take a gap year. It is a good foundation for anyone wanting to either pursue a dance career, or to use his or her talents effectively in the church. The focus will be in technical proficiency, performance and teaching.
For those with less experience of dance it is possible to audition for the elevate Foundation, held between September and December, where skills are developed through technique, improvisation, choreography and academic studies. The techniques studied on the elevate Foundation will equip students with some of the key skills necessary to initiate and develop dance in church and community settings.
How long does it take?
The course runs for eleven months from September until July, Monday to Friday, with some shorter days. The elevate Foundation runs September until December. The tour lasts from May to July. The course takes place in South East London.
