It has proven to be more than I could possibly have imagined and I am overwhelmed daily by what a privilege it is to dance, pray and grow as part of the company.

Catherine Sleeman, Elevate Dance Company 2020

Elevate is a wonderful experience. I have been pushed to step out of my comfort zone, as well as growing personally, artistically and spiritually. We have been challenged and encouraged. Each moment will be engraved in my mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

In order to apply, you need to fill in our online application form. We will then be in touch to invite you to an audition at our studio in South East London. The audition will take the form of a contemporary technique class, a short improvisation task, a solo and an interview.

How can I fund the course?

Students over the years have been able to fundraise successfully from many sources including their local church, family and friends, fundraising events, savings, part-time work and other local grant-making trusts. Social media is also a great way to raise money, by setting up a fundraising page on sites such as GoFundMe or JustGiving and sharing it on your social media.

Where do I live?

Students source their own accommodation. We can help by putting students in touch with each other before the start of term if you are interested in sharing accommodation. There are also some local families who are sometimes interested in hosting students, whom we can connect you with.

Can I take on part-time work whilst on the course?

Yes, but it is up to you how much you feel you can manage. This is a full-time and intensive course with some evenings, and most weekends free. Once you have your timetable for each term, you can work out if/when you would like to work. However Elevate Dance Company members should be free of any work or other commitments for the duration of tour.
(Please note that for overseas apprentices, the ability to work is subject to visa restrictions).

Where does Elevate go on tour?

That depends on you!  Each year, the majority of the EDC tour is hosted by the venues known to company members.  Family, friends, churches and schools local to apprentices are usually keen to host a performance, workshop or residency. Tour venues include churches, schools, festivals and youth/after school clubs. Previous apprentices have toured to America, Canada, New Zealand, and Germany amongst others, as well as across the UK and London.

What do I get at the end?

On successful completion of the course, you will receive a detailed report and a certificate. You will have accomplished an intensive dance training and the experience of having performed and taught to a broad spectrum of the community. You may also have gained experience of the technical aspects of touring a performance including a basic understanding of the sound and lighting used. We are not currently accredited with a university.  Our course is quite unique and doesn’t easily fit into boxes!
